AXTON, Va. — Anne Newton Ayers age 77, of Axton formerly of Rocky Gap, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Martinsville, VA. She was born September 14, 1939 in Richlands to the late Reverend Rufus T. and Ellen S. Newton of Rocky Gap, VA.
She spent many years in banking but focused her life on taking care of her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was happiest with her family. A resident of the Axton community for over 50 years, she was also a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jane N. Fortune; one son, John (Johnny) R. Kitts; and three great-grandsons, Jacob, Benjamin, and Sean Hoffman.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth N. Fisher of Christiansburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia (Patty) H. and Keith Wall of Martinsville; Jaqueline (Jackie) K. Wilson; five grandchildren, Robert (Robbie) J. Wilson, Shannon W. Simmons and husband Scott; Heather W. Hoffman and husband Clifford; Whitney L. Wilson, and Lucas C. Wall; one great grandson, Justin S. Simmons and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Highlands Bland Funeral Chapel with Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Interment will follow in the Clearfork Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Clearfork Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
