SPRING GROVE, PA William C. Wood, age 89, passed away suddenly at home on January 2, 2018.
Bill was born in Bluefield, WV in 1928 the son of William Robert Wood, a superintendent at Mercer Vocational School and Emma Wood a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Bluefield where the kitchen holds her name as Emma's kitchen. He was a 1947 graduate of Beaver High School. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Engineering in 1959 and remained an avid Hokie fan for his entire life. He worked as an engineer for Thiokol Corporation, helping to design products for the space program. He then worked for Armstrong Industries followed by P.H. Glatfelter Inc. in Spring Grove, PA where he worked as a Professional Engineer retiring in 1992 after 27 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Spring Grove Lions Club, Windy Hill Senior Center and a member for 67 years with Bluefield-Mercer Masonic Lodge No. 85.
Bill is survived by his daughter Jeanine Wood of Littleton, MA; his son David Wood and wife Dr. Susanlee Wisotzkey of York, PA; his grandchildren Marina, Dalton, Edward and Amie and his great grandchildren Savannah and Teegan. He was predeceased by his sister Laura Snipes.
Services and interment are being held privately by the family under the direction of Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., of Spring Grove.
