William's Story

William Dewey Starling, Jr., 89, of Bluefield, VA passed away peacefully in his home, on Tuesday February 7, 2017.
Mr. Starling was the son of the late Iva Caudill Starling and William Dewey Starling Sr.
Mr. Starling made his home in Bluefield, VA for more than 50 years. He enjoyed a long and very productive career in the coal mining industry. Mr. Starling was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served honorably as a gunner 's mate aboard the aircraft carrier Independence during several major sea battles in the South Pacific. For many years, Mr. Starling has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, WV. He was very pleased to serve the Lord as a Deacon in his church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Starling is preceded in death by his older sister Jewel Waldron. Mr. Starling is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary Frazier Starling of the home, his daughter Beverly Anne and her husband David Wohlford of Bluefield, VA., 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren,.
Christian funeral services will be held at the Mercer Funeral Home by Kellen Sarles, CRE, Interim Pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield on Wednesday February 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum following the service.
