William Elliott "Bill" Myers

William Elliott Bill Myers BIRMINGHAM, Ala. William Elliott "Bill" Myers, 63, died peacefully Monday evening, Dec. 3, 2018, at his home in Alabaster, Ala., after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
The son of the late William Anderson and Nancy Catherine Myers, Bill was born in Bluefield on Dec. 18, 1954, and raised in Duhring. He graduated from Montcalm High School and attended West Virginia University before beginning a career in the mining industry with Koch Carbon Coal in Virginia and, later, Reiss Viking in Alabama. Bill then switched careers, working for Metro Corp. in Alabama for 23 years until the time of his death.
Bill was known for his intelligence, graciousness, quick wit and sense of humor. He placed family above all, and was devoted to his beloved wife Sherry Pruitt Myers to whom he had been married for 40 years. Among Bill's fondest memories were his years spent growing up in Mercer County, where he trekked through forests with friends, explored the "ice caves" near his homeplace with siblings, and spent countless hours fishing on the banks of the Bluestone River. Although he could be a prankster, Bill took his role of "big brother" seriously and was fiercely loyal and protective of all those in his family. Bill also had a thirst for knowledge, and was a voracious reader with an affinity for science fiction. In later years, he was known to enjoy a quiet afternoon with a good book, a good scotch and a good cigar. Bill also had a great love for his adored dog, Molly, who was always loyally by his side.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, the late Elliott Pierce "E.P." and Dot Garrett, and John Thomas Myers and Ruby Catherine Myers Murawski; mother-in-law, Jerri Pruitt; uncles, Keith and John Myers; and aunt, Phyllis Savas.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sherry; siblings, Pam Krondon and husband Alan, of River Road, Bramwell, Ann White and husband, David, of Princeton, Ed Myers and wife, Anita, of Princeton and Raleigh, N.C., and Samantha Perry and husband, Joe, of Duhring; brother-in-law, Michael Pruitt of Bluefield; nephews and nieces, Rusty "Russ" Krondon, Jennifer Scott and husband, Clayton, Shawn Krondon and wife, Sarah, Jason Myers and wife, Nathalia, April Nance and husband, Ben, Brittny Honaker and husband, Josh, Heather Webb, and Donovan Pruitt; aunt, Carolee Crosen, of Roanoke, Va.; several great nephews and nieces.
In keeping with Bill's wishes, his body will be cremated and no service held. His ashes will be scattered on the banks of the Bluestone River.

We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Billy. All of his family has our sincere sympathy. Lots of memories of his young life, he worked with Earl that he insisted on calling “Uncle Earl” even though they were second cousins, they took a class in electricity at a local college, and his Uncle Acie and Aunt Vilda loved him unconditionally I know that all of you are going to miss him , Love from all of us.

I am sorry to hear about Billy's death. I remember him as a very intelligent, inquisitive, competitive young student at Montcalm High School. He was not shy about expressing his views even if they differed from my own or other adults who worked there, not a bad quality. I liked him very much.
