William "Mickey"'s Story

William "Mickey" Milton Ables, 87, of Princeton, went home to be with Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018.
Born May 20, 1930 in McComas, WV; he was a son of the late Eldridge Osborne Ables and the late Allie Webb Ables.
Mickey loved playing the fiddle and guitar, dancing, traveling and cooking. He was a member of the Virginia Beach Symphony and Barber Shop Quartet. Mickey graduated from McComas High School in 1949, following graduation he served his country in the US Navy, worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad Company, and retired following 40 years of dedicated service with AT&T. Mickey was a Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton, WV.
He was a hardworking man that built two homes for his family. His love of music was shared with his kids and grandkids, all of which are talented musicians. He along with his eldest daughter was a 2 time winner of the Virginia State Fair Fiddle Competition. Returning to WV 20 years ago, his love for the mountains and mountain music was a passion that he shared with everyone. He loved to share his knowledge with the young ones. He was self-taught in most areas, he was an expert at many things. He will be greatly missed!
In addition to his parents, Eldridge and Allie Ables, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dillard and Howard; and four sisters, Glenna, Cora, Lucille, and Eva.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Lulla Belle Ables of Princeton; daughter, Elaine Sigmon and husband, Joe of Chesapeake, VA; two sons, Wayne Ables and wife, Theresa of Chesapeake, VA and Larry Ables and wife, Tammy of Chesapeake, VA; eleven grandchildren, Caranie Smith and husband, Brian of Chesapeake, VA; Jeremy Sigmon and wife, Brittany of Suffolk, VA, Gabriel Sigmon of Chesapeake, VA, Michaela Sigmon of Chesapeake, VA, April Fisher of Chesapeake, VA, Brandi Hall of Chesapeake, VA, Julie Lockwood and husband, Justin of Norfolk, VA, Gary Ables of Chesapeake, VA, Allie Ables of Chesapeake, VA, Taylor Paden and husband, Billy of Chesapeake, VA, and Shana Ables of Princeton, WV; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Amer Blankenship of Princeton, WV and Audrey Pool of Portsmouth, VA; nieces, Brenda Scott DeHart of Princeton, WV and Marcia Ables of Greensboro, NC; great niece, Tammy Gilmore-Autry and husband, Robert of Charlottesville, VA; extended family and friends.
Services to celebrate the life of William "Mickey" Milton Ables will be held 1:00PM Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Roselawn Funeral Home, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV with Pastor David Dockery of the First Baptist Church, Princeton officiating. Following the services, Mickey will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Friends may gather with the family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, March 9, 2018 at the funeral home.
