William Donald Henry Sr., 96, of Roanoke, VA died Thursday May 25, 2017 in Salem, VA. A resident of Pocahontas, VA for more than ninety years, William "Bill" Henry was the son of the late William C and Laura Hazel Ganaway Henry. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandfather William H. Ganaway and his loving wife Mary Matthews Henry.
William is survived by seven children: William Jr., Diane Jean Bowers, Rosemary Gammon, Robert Haywood Henry (Phyllis), Michael Norman Henry (Verna), Arthur Henry and Hazel Dillard (Don). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
William was employed by the Pocahontas Fuel Company until his retirement in 1983 and he was an active member of the United Mine Workers of America until his death. William was also an entrepreneur who operated a small electronics repair business for more than 50 years. He loved family, fixing, fabricating, and fishing.
Services will be held Wednesday May 31, 2017 at Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, VA at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Curtis Spencer officiating. Visitation will be from 12pm to 1pm. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, WV. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
