PRINCETON William Harvey, Jr., 86, of Princeton, died Thursday, July 27, 2017. Born November 15, 1930 at Montcalm, he was the son of the late William Harvey and Gertrue Shaw Harvey.
Mr. Harvey served for 13 years in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired coal miner having worked for Eastern Coal Company. He was a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved to travel and was an avid WVU fan. While traveling the roads of West Virginia, he had the idea for the Shawnee Parkway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Harvey Goodman; one sister, Martha Goings; and six siblings, Denzel Harvey, Gilmer Harvey, Hazel Bailey, Ruth Powell, Polly Phillips and Virginia Hoskins.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elitha Thompson Harvey; three children, Danni Harvey and "Bear" and Anita Anderson both of Princeton and Jeff Harvey and wife Krista of Glade Hill, VA; four sisters, Dorothy Hodge and husband Gene and Samantha Tucker all of Peterstown, Wanda Faidley of Princeton and Robertha Taylor and husband Felix of London, KY; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Elders Ronnie Billings, Tommy Pack and Norvel Mann officiating. Interment will follow at the New Zion Cemetery at Elgood where Military Honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
