Willetta's Story

Willetta Harrison Simpson, age 98 of Meadowview, Virginia passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in a local Abingdon, Virginia hospital.
She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sallie H. Altizer Harrison.
She was a retired Nurse for Mattie Williams Hospital in Richlands, Virginia. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a member of the Cedar Bluff Community Church and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Simpson; sisters, Ruby Collier, Lucille Gillespie, Ethel Beavers; brothers, Lawrence, Allen, Glen and Willie Harrison.
Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Daughter, Patricia Meyers and husband, Michael of Meadowview, VA; Son, James Thomas Sawyers and wife, Delores of Plano, TX; Step Children. Jerry Simpson, Roger Simpson, Connie Gross and Carol Goss. Sisters: Sarah Cochran of Cliffield, VA, Mozelle Vandyke of Orlando, FL; Special Friends, Kenneth Earls, Bill and Ann Smith, Roger and Bonnie Childress. Grandchildren, Jason Meyers, Eric Sawyers, Allison Harris; Great Grandchildren, Cainan Meyers, Brodie Meyers and Ashley Harris.
A funeral service for Willetta Harrison Sawyers will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 am until time of service at 12 noon.
In honor of Willetta, the family ask donations be made to St. Jude's P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142, in lieu of flowers.
