Wilbert's Story

Wilbert Arliss Mitchell, age 60 of North Tazewell, VA was given the gift of life on May 28, 1957 at Richlands, VA and the gift of eternal life on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Wilbert was the son of Wilbert Arliss Mitchell, Sr. of North Tazewell, VA and the late Shirley Dennis Mitchell. He was a 1975 graduate of Tazewell High School and received college scholarships to play football at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. He relocated to Charlotte, NC where he lived from 1978 until 2008 and was employed by American Freightways/ FedEx Freight.
Wilbert moved back to Tazewell, VA in 2008. At the time of his death, he was employed by Quikrete, Pounding Mill, VA.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Helen Dennis; paternal grandparents, William and Hattie Mitchell; brother and sister in law, James "Bubbles" and Margaret "Peg" Dennis and brother in law, Jimmy Eaves.
In addition to his father, Wilbert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathryn Eargle Mitchell; daughters, Lassity Maria Mitchell of Seattle, WA and Marissa Ann Mitchell of Charlotte, NC; the apple of his eye, grandson, Benjamin Mitchell of Seattle, WA; brother, Lawrence Mitchell (Patricia) of Roanoke, VA; sisters, Vera Mitchell, Brenda Wooley (Travis), Susie Williams all of Tazewell, VA; Hattie Jones (Stephen) of North Tazewell, VA; aunts and uncles, Ruth Mitchell, Romona Sargent, Margaret Moore, Bobby Dennis, and Walter Mitchell (Gwen); nieces and nephews, Valarie Shephard, Malcolm Dennis, Devon Dennis, Marcus Paxton, Ebonee Mitchell, Thomas Rogers, Amanda Rogers, Mick Eargle (Lindsey), Sarah Eargle, and Noah Eargle; numerous cousins whom he loved dearly; family of the heart, Katrina, Shea, Shaquille, Cyndee, Summer McDonald/Moore; and last but not least, the "fellas" Herman Clements, Desi Davis, Roger Davis, Wayne Harris, Joe McGraw, Daryl Moore, Mike Moore, Omar Reed, Jr., Steve Viney, Terry Ward, and Eddie Witten.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one's choice or Tazewell Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 862, Tazewell, VA 24651 for use in landscaping and maintaining the beautiful cemetery grounds.
