Virginia Elizabeth Hager, 94 of North Tazewell, VA died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born March 23, 1923 in Thompson Valley, VA, she was a daughter of the late Edward Hoge Vanhoozier and Nannie Hannah Patrick Vanhoozier. She was a member of the former First Church of God at Riverjack in North Tazewell, VA and later a member at the First Church of God at Maxwell, VA. She taught Sunday School and was involved in various church activities.
Mrs. Hager retired in 1989, after 24 years with Tazewell County Schools as cafeteria manager. After retirement, she volunteered with the RSVP Senior Companion Program for 23 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Hager; one son, Bobby Joe Hager and daughter, Charlotte Sue Hager; two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by daughters, Shirley Bundy and husband, Jackie of Roanoke, VA and Mary Crouse of Tazewell, VA; son, Charles R. Hager and wife, Judy of Dublin, VA; grandchildren, Robert Hager and wife, Pam of Massachusetts, Tanya Wood and husband, Jared, and Lori Hager all of Tennessee, Jason Crouse of Tazewell, VA, great grandchildren, Isabella Wood, Elizabeth Wood, Liam Hager, Ashley Hager, Noah Crouse, and Jazmin Crouse.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 4 PM with the Reverend Jared Wood and the Reverend Dr. Thomas A. Conley officiating.
Committal services and interment will be conducted at 12 Noon on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Vanhoozier, Dale Osborne, Robert Hager, Jason Crouse, Rufus Vanhoozier, Aaron Vanhoozier, David Matthew Vanhoozier, and Nathan Vanhoozier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
