Trula Mae's Story

Trula Mae Lockhart Keene, 84 years of age of Keen Mountain, VA, was reached down by Gods hand, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 and she took it, surrounded by her family, at Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands, VA.
Born May 11, 1933 in Davenport, VA, to the late Luther Lockhart and Viola Mae Compton Lockhart.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her, whom will be greatly missed by all.
Ms. Keene was an active member of Garden Baptist Church, dedicated herself to the inspirational Card Ministry and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was active in the Girl Scouts for over sixty-five years, was area Chairman for the Black Diamond District Girl Scout Council, instrumental in the installation of the Coal Miner statue in the town of Grundy, VA, active in the Relay for Life and helping in her Garden Creek/Oakwood community.
She touched many young ladies hearts and futures by her devotion and guidance throughout her years of service of Scouting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Okie Hassell Keene, brothers Luther Lockhart, Jr., Otis Lockhart and David Lockhart.
Survivors include her children: Phillip Douglas Keene and wife Patricia of Oakwood, VA, Anna Christine "Chris" Remines and husband Bruce of Bluefield, VA, Carol Breeding and husband Jimmy of Keen Mountain, VA.
She was also survived by grandchildren: Jane Horton and husband Franklin, Carrie Stiltner and husband Chad, Willie Breeding and wife Whitney, Courtney Remines and wife Jana, James Breeding; great-grandchildren: Sydney Stiltner, Elliott Horton, Skylar Stiltner, Arwyn Horton, Henry Breeding, Oliver Breeding and Isabella Remines; sisters-in-law Theresa Keene and Charlene McKee; special friends Imogene Remines and Nancy Ritchie; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service for Trula Mae Lockhart Keene will be held at the Garden Baptist Church, Friday, December 29, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jodi Breeding, Pastor Brandon Estep, and Reverend Jim Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Cemetery, Richlands, VA. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Keen Mountain, VA, Thursday, December 28, 2017 after 6:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the Garden Baptist Church, Friday, December 29th, one hour prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
