Tony Allen Thompson, age 64 of Tazewell, VA died Friday, July 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his wife and family. He was born May 28, 1953 at Tazewell, VA and was a son of Annie Elizabeth Kitts Thompson of Tazewell, VA and the late Richard Elmore Thompson.
Tony was a hard worker; he started working on the J.K. Short Dairy Farm when he was in the sixth grade. He worked there until he became a Distributive Education Student in high school and began working at the former Greever Hardware and Greever Funeral Home. He spent a lot of time on the farm in Tannersville with his friend, Mike. He showed Roadster Ponies for seven years.
Tony was a Tazewell High School Graduate, Class of 1972. When the Greever family sold the hardware store and funeral home, Tony went to work for Carbide Tool for a short time then he changed careers and began working for Abbs Valley Electric as a motor assembler. Tony then worked for over twenty years at Southern Electric and Machine Company (SEMCO) in Narrows, before his battle with cancer forced his retirement.
Tony was a New York Yankees Fan and Pittsburg Steelers Fan and was the proud owner of his own "Terrible Towel", but the towel he was most proud of was the one his minister gave him when he was baptized with "Servant" embroidered on it along with a Certificate of Baptism. Tony was a member of Chestnut Grove Christian Church and was a true servant of God; he loved studying the Lord's Word and leading the Church in the opening service on the first Sunday of the month and tried to make every Church function. He loved his family dearly, praying that one day they would find God and His love for them and the joy of being in His service.
In the summer of 2016, during their 40th Wedding Celebration, Tony asked his wife, Christine Cook Thompson, to marry him again; she accepted. Tony was the best husband, son, brother and friend anyone could have and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy Sargent Thompson; several uncles; aunts; cousins.
In addition to his mother, Ann Thompson and companion, Dexter Keen, those who survive to cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-one years, Christine Cook Thompson; his brother, Terry Wayne Thompson and fiance', Karen McKinney; his sister, Barbara Lester and husband, Roscoe, both of Tazewell, VA; brothers-in-law, Herman Cook and wife, Helen and Rick Cook and wife, Sheila; nephews, T.J.
