Thomas D.'s Story
Thomas D. "Toodie" Vineyard III, age 52, a long time resident of Gary, (P.O. Box 194, Gary, WV 24836), who peacefully departed this life in Beckley, WV, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the VA Medical Center.
He was born November 18, 1964 in New York and the son of the late Thomas D. Vineyard Jr., and Jacquelyn Valentine Vineyard. He was a 1984 graduate of Mount View High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He completed several years of College, and was an agent for Combined Life Insurance. He was a member of Apostolic Temple Church in Gary and the Gary Lion's Club. For the past 10 months, he served as the City of Gary's Mayor, was a former Councilman of Ward IV and Vice-President of the McDowell County Tourism. He was a football coach at Mount View High School, assistant baseball coach for Mount View Middle School and President of New Hope Little League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Jasmine and Shenique; one brother, Dana and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Brown.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 23 years, Kishon M. "Bunny" Vineyard; their children: Tashaan D. Vineyard I, Chantel S. Vineyard, Khiamani A. Vineyard and Daner T. Vineyard all of the home; Michael Diggs of Havaco, two foster children, Kenneth and Milyasha Adams both of the home; one grandson, Tashaan D. Vineyard II., his siblings: Timothy (Jennifer) Vineyard of Welch, Terry (Jacqueline) Vineyard of Charlotte, NC, Jacqueline Vineyard of Wilcoe, Tiara Vineyard of Jenkinjones and Tammy Adams of Ohio; step-father-in-law, Harold Brown of Gary; step-mother, Wilberta Vineyard of Jenkinjones; two aunts, Ramona Robinson and Kaye F. Hamilton both of Ohio; several brothers and sisters-in-law, a host of nephews, nieces; many cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Bob N. Jack Auditorium (Mount View High School) in Welch, with the Elder Kenneth Brown, officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest lawn Mausoleum, on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, WV, where burial rites will be performed by VFW Post 1144, of Iaeger, WV.
Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service at the Auditorium.
