TERRY's Story

Terry L. Mulkey, 72 of Pinellas Park, FL and formerly of Bluefield, VA, peacefully entered his new life on Monday, May 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving brother, Larry and his wife, Judy. He joined his parents, Nelson Hunter and Dolly Maye Musick Mulkey in heaven.
Terry is a former member of Memorial Baptist Church, Bluefield, VA and more recently was a member of Northside Church of Christ in St. Petersburg, FL, where he was active until his health declined. Terry always had a brilliant mind, excelling academically throughout his educational endeavors. Even in elementary school, his love of science showed, as he participated in science fairs, winning the 1959 competition with a tesla coil. Graduating from Graham High School in 1961, he enrolled in Virginia Tech's engineering program, graduating in 1966.
Terry had an adventurous spirit, having many and varied interests. He was an avid reader, as illustrated by his large personal library. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was an accomplished artist. He enjoyed playing his guitar. One of his greatest interests was horses. In early childhood, he developed a special love of horses. He understood horses and horses understood him. Terry loved horses and horses loved him. He owned, bred and showed horses, winning numerous trophies and awards.
In his career, he worked as an aerospace engineer. Throughout his career, he traveled the country, working on various space related programs. He worked closely with NASA in the launching of the space shuttle, was the lead engineer on the space shuttle program and was instrumental in the successful launching of the space shuttle. As a result, he has received numerous awards from NASA and Honeywell for his knowledge and dedicated service to the space program. He retired from Honeywell, Clearwater, FL. He and his brother, Larry were the owners of Storm Tree Farms, Pinellas Park, FL, which is a World Class horse breeding farm, winning the world Championship in 2006 at Louisville State Fair.
He will be lovingly and affectionately missed by his brother: Larry Mulkey and wife, Judy of Bluefield, VA and Pinellas Park, FL; his nephews: Rick Mulkey and wife, Susan of Spartansburg, SC, Michael Mulkey and wife, Melinda of Sarasota, FL and Jason Mulkey and wife, Brooke of Bluefield, VA; his nieces: Chrissy Plott and husband, Tommy of Bluefield, VA and Catherine Mulkey of Bluefield, VA; 9 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces; 1 great great-nephew and 1 great great-niece.
A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Dudley Memorial Chapel with Rev Hugh Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. at Dudley Memorial.
