WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Stewart Kennedy, 89 of Wytheville, VA, formerly of Princeton, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017.
Born in 1927 in Panther, WV, he was the eldest son of the late Alvis & Polly Kennedy. He attended school in Iaeger, WV before moving to New York and then later to Chicago. It was there he met the love of his life, Mary Bails, and they were married in 1963. While Stewart & Mary never had children, they were always doting on their nieces and nephews.
Stewart and Mary settled back in Bluefield, WV and Stewart worked for Thistle Foundry where he would finally retire. He loved talking about cars and was the best storyteller.
In addition to his parents, Stewart was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Cantrell and Pearl Dameron, a brother Benny Kennedy, nephews, Truman and Leon Roberts, and a niece Donna Shrader.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kennedy; A sister, Phyllis Hatfield; Nieces: Jan Jones and Tommy, Bonnie Cline and Calvin, Danielle Keene and Jeff, Belinda Kennedy-Carroll and Lynn as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services to celebrate the life of Stewart Kennedy will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M., Garden of the Nativity at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Roy Williams officiating. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton by 1:30 PM.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
