Shirley Rose's Story

Shirley Rose Gregory Sutphin, 87 years old, of Rocky Gap, Virginia, passed away on January 20, 2018. Born September 28th, 1930 the daughter of the late Trubie and Irene Gregory of Rocky Gap.
A faithful wife, a loving mother, and grandmother, she used her talents in the kitchen to keep her family close. She surrounded herself with her children and grandchildren, she owned and operated Sutphins Grocery for 20 years by the side of her husband, Edwin Sutphin they were dedicated in serving the Lord and their community.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edwin Vadis Sutphin; daughter, Louise Sutphin Bowen; sister, Jean King; and brother, Trubie (Jr) Gregory.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Rev. Larry Sutphin and wife, Hilda, Michael Sutphin and wife, Debra; a daughter, Linda Sarver and husband, Charlie; five grandsons, Chris Sutphin and wife, Angie, Jason Sarver, Jeromy Sutphin and wife, Courtney, Jonathan Saver and Shawn Sutphin and wife, Jessica; great grandchildren, River Sutphin, Colton Sutphin, and Kaitlyn Lane. Her surviving siblings are: Alma Stowers, Bill Gregory, Oren Gregory, Don Gregory, and Jimmie Gregory.
She was a dedicated member of the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church and the Rocky Gap United Methodist Women.
Services to Celebrate the life of Shirley Rose Gregory Sutphin will be held 2:00PM Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with Rev. Rodney Lawson officiating. Following the services Shirley will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Edwin at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Friends may gather with the family from 12:00PM until time of the service Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family sincerely requests memorial donations be made to the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church, PO Box 68, Rocky Gap, VA 24366.
