Shirley's Story

PRINCETON Shirley Barker, 81, of Princeton passed away suddenly and peacefully Thursday morning, June 8, 2017 at her home.? She was born May 17, 1936 in Thurmond, WV; she was the daughter of the late Hilda Whitman and Morley F. Baker.
Shirley worked for G C Murphy in Princeton, later worked at K-Mart as personnel manager for many years. Following her retirement from K-Mart she worked for six years at the Princeton Walmart.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. "My family means everything to me." She loved cooking for her family and spending time with them on all occasions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Ronald Barker and two great-grandchildren: Justin Cook & Landon Dowell.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 65 years, Sammy J. Barker, her four sons: Mitchell Barker & wife Bobbie, Jackie Barker & wife Joyce, Bo Barker & wife Missy, and Matthew Barker & wife Loretta and a special niece, Jeanie Nowlin whom she raised as a daughter. Her eight grandchildren: Mitchell Barker, Christie Lafferty, Sabrina Cook, Jackie Allen Barker, Frankie Price, Zackery Barker, Kaleigh Barker, Ashley Dowell and her eight great-grandchildren: Layne Lafferty, Casey Lafferty, Erica Barker, Ryan Barker, Tristian Cook, Christian Cook, Ethan Dowell and Eli Dowell.
A service of celebration will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 12, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Scott Catron officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 4 until 6 P.M. at the funeral home.
