Ruby Jewell's Story
Ruby Jewell Neely Nelson, 71 of Pine Grove Road, Lerona, went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, March 2, 2018 while visiting her son in Lake Orion, MI.
Born August 23, 1946 in Lerona, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Jennings and Irene Cox Neely.
Ruby was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and special friend to many loved ones who will sorely miss her.
She worked several different jobs to finally retire from the Lake Orion County School System as a bus driver with over 22 years of service. She moved back to Lerona to be near her family and friends, but never retired from giving loving care to her entire community. Ruby loved the Lord and was a very active member of the Lerona United Methodist Church. One of Ruby's favorite sayings in church was, "I'm a child of the King."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Lila Martin, Larry Gene Neely, Sr. and former husband Lewis H. Nelson, Sr.
Surviving are her two sons, Lewis H. Nelson, Jr. of Lake Orion; Brian Nelson and wife Dianne of Lerona; Ruby's honorary daughter, Teresa Trimm and husband Matt of MI; Two siblings, Jessie Ray Neely of Gahanna, OH,Marsha Karen Edwards of True;
Seven grandchildren, Ashleigh Nelson, Michael Nelson, Jacob Nelson,
Samantha Miller, Abigail Miller, Kiley Trimm and Gavin Trimm;
One great-granddaughter, Jayla Nelson;
Twenty-four nieces and nephews; Seventy-four great-nieces and nephews
with one special great-nephew, Ricky Sexton;
Seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ruby Jewell Nelson will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Lerona United Methodist Church with Pastor David White officiating.
Burial will follow in the Neely Cemetery at Pipestem.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday (today), 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com.
