Dear Viola, Ann, Pamela, and Family; Aunt Ruby was blessed to live a good and long life. Her indendent spirit was amazing and even legendary in our family. She was a constant inspiration to me. I smiled for days after I heard that she was riding her lawn tractor and cutting her grass at the age of 80! So like her. I sought her out at family gatherings because, like my Dad, she had the gift of somehow always having something interesting and insightful to say. I suppose once a teacher always a teacher. As a teacher Ruby made a lasting impression on her students. My mother, Ayn, and I all go to Dentist Dr. Tillman Cease who owns the Dental Group in Hyattsville, MD. `As Mom sat down... in his chair for the first time and they were chatting, he learned that Dad was from Bluefield. Right away he said do you know Ruby Harris? He said he asked because he was a student of hers. He went on to say that he was grateful to her to this day.. We are thinking of you at this time. There is much to celebrate because a life well lived continues forever. She will remain in our hearts and of those of all who loved her for generations to come. The loss will at times be heavy, but take comfort in knowing that earth hath no sorrow that' heaven cannot heal. Peace and Love, Daphne and Marie.Read more

I extend my deepest sympathy to the Harris Family. I'd never had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Harris, but I'm a Bluefield native, attended Jones St. Elementary and Mr. Harris was my 5th grade teacher. He was my favorite elementary school teacher. My father passed during my 6th grade (1962) and my family moved to Covington, Va. I now reside in Roanoke, Va. My prayers are with you.

My condolences to the family. I remember going to the Greenbrier in Sulfur Springs and Ms. Harris was part of the group. We had a great time. She was so nice to us when she was our long term substitute at Jones Street School. The last time I saw her she was enjoying herself at the Genoa-Park Central Reunion!
