Roy's Story

Roy Jennings Hooker, Jr., 85 of Powhatan, VA passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family, following a long battle with cancer. He was born August 20, 1932 in Bland County, VA, the son of the late Roy Sr. & Beatrice Vencill Hooker.
He was a veteran of the United States Army with distinction in the Korean War. He also served and retired proudly as an officer with the Richmond Police Department, Richmond, VA.
He is survived by his wife Bettie; his sons, Mark (Heidi) Hooker and Jonathan (Diane) Hooker; two special grandchildren, Shelby and Abigail; and his sisters, Juanita McGuire and Olena (Jack) Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Bastian Church of God, Bastian, VA, with Rev. Dennis Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter Cemetery, Bastian, VA, with military rites provided by Bland American Legion Post #20 and Bland VFW Post #7969.
The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 A.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.
