PRINCETON Robert Ray Wood, 88, of Princeton formerly of Bicknal Flats went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Born September 4, 1929 he was the son of the late Ezra Wood and Ocie Meador Wood.
He was of the Christian faith. He was a former coal miner and a member of the UMWA and loved farming.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Jane Prince Wood; two children, Judy Rose and Robert Lee Wood; siblings, Jean Whitt, Reba Ross, Elbert Wood and June Farley.
Survivors include five children, Darla Montgomery and husband Larry of Rock, Donna Williams of Concord, NC, Shiela Foley and her significant other Kim McFarland of Sumter, SC, Shirley Atkins and her significant other Melvin Moppin of Bluefield and Sue Basham and her significant other Ed Sizemore of Princeton; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wood of Lashmeet; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; caregivers, Elsie and Willard Horton of Montcalm and staff of Cassell's Boarding Care.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
