Nina Jeanette's Story

Text size

Pipestem Nina J. Mulhearn, 73, of Pipestem, went home to be with her beloved Jesus after a long fight with dementia. Nina passed peacefully at home in her sleep. She was a devout Christian attending Lerona United Methodist Church.
Nina was born March 19, 1944 at Jamaica, NY and her soul traveled home on May 27, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathew Kirk Ward and Nina Mae White Ward; her sister Marilyn Ward Peterson and husband John Peterson.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Daniel J. Mulhearn of the home; her brother Mathew Ward and wife Evelyn of Smithtown, NY, Sister, Frances Ward Magnusson of Cumming, GA, as well as nephews, nieces and grandnieces.
Nina earned her Master's Degree at Adelphi University. She had thirty three year career as a first grade and reading recovery teacher in the Brentwood, Long Island School District. Her entire career was spent in one classroom which she kept lovingly decorated. People would walk up to her on the street and hug her, saying she had taught them, then their child and now their grandchild. One of her greatest loves was her students and she spent many a long night preparing their lessons, sometimes crying over their troubles.
Nina was an intelligent, kindhearted person with many talents. She was a gifted amateur painter for as long as her health allowed. She was a lover of all animals and rescued and lovingly cared for many cats. Most of all, she was a lover of Jesus and led her husband to the Lord. Nina made a habit of visiting local nursing homes with several other Church members, again as long as her health allowed. She was in the Lerona Methodist "Meals on Wheels" ministry. While in her late 50s, Nina took and passed the West Virginia State Firefighter One Course so she could join her husband in the Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department. She will be sorely missed by her husband, immediate family, Church family and many friends until that great reunion before the Throne.
