Myrtle's Story

Myrtle Irene Wooten, 81, of Welch, WV, went to be with the Lord
Sunday, March 11, 2018. After a short illness, she passed peacefully in her sleep. Born May 22, 1936 in Russell County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late
Laban G Phillips and Gracie Sutherland Phillips.
Myrtle was a member of the Welch Church of God and cherished
her church family. She was a caring and devoted employee at the
Welch Daily News for 47 years.
She loved her yearly trips to Myrtle Beach with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law.
Myrtle was a resident of McDowell County all of her life.
Other than her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Bert Randall Wooten. Two sisters; Doris Jean Walker and Pearlene Johnson. Two brothers; Barney Phillips and Laban Phillips Jr.
Survivors include her three children; Bert Wooten Jr. and wife Jody of NC. Angel Kornish and husband Ed of Welch, WV. and Annis McKinney and husband Floyd also of Welch, WV. One sister, Ernestine "Teena" Fox of Gary, WV. Myrtle was also blessed with 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be conducted Saturday, March 17 at the Welch Church of
God, Welch, WV at 1:PM with Bishop Timothy Akers officiating.
Burial will follow at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield, WV.
Friends may call from 12:Noon until the hour of service.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Bert Wooten Jr. Ed Kornish, Floyd McKinney, Nick Miano, Justin Miano and Billy Kegg.
Assisting the Wooten family is Widener Funeral Home, Northfork, WV.
