Mr. Roy's Story
Mr. Roy Roger Taylor, 71, of Winston-Salem passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at his home.
He was born at home on August 14, 1946 in Tazewell County, Va. to the late Carl and Florence Hypes Taylor, the eighth of ten children.
Roy was a member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church. He possessed work ethics beyond and above the call of duty beginning at age 14 in the coal mines of Virginia. Roy had a great love for hunting, especially with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Children were drawn to his caring and trusting nature. He was blessed to have shared his life with two strong, loving ladies, being predeceased by the mother of his children, LaDonna McGuire Taylor.
In addition to his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by four sisters, June Taylor, Bernice Asbury, Marie Hays, and Gladys Myers; and three brothers, Willard, Carl 'Pete' Jr., and Ronnie Taylor. Surviving to cherish his memory is wife, Patsy Phillips Taylor of the home; son, Butch Taylor and wife Myra of Lexington; daughter, Tammy Ballard and husband Ronnie of Wallburg; step-daughters, Cindy Reid and husband David, and Amanda Fleming and husband Bill; sisters, Faye Dillon and husband Bobby, and Sherry Crews; grandchildren, Beth Taylor, Taylor Rath and husband Colton, Kayla Taylor, and Christopher Ballard; step-grandchildren, Bryson Fleming, Justin Reid, Jamie Reid, and Jared Reid; and many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Sherrill officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home, 10301 N. NC Hwy 109, Winston-Salem.
