KEGLEY — Melvin Curtis O'Dell, Sr., 73 of Kegley passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 after battling a long illness. Born June 29, 1943, in Giatto he was the son of the late Benny O'Dell and Betty Bailey O'Dell.
Curtis was a retired coal miner and he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Princeton. He was an amazing man and a loving father and grandfather. Curtis will surely be missed and his laugh will echo in the hearts of the loved ones he left behind.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Belcher O'Dell; three brothers, Wayne O'Dell, Lewis O'Dell and Robert O'Dell and one sister, Carolyn O'Dell.
Left to cherish his memory, Curtis had two sons, Curtis, Jr. and wife Candace of Hensley, West Virginia and Eric of Kegley; one daughter, Beth O'Dell of Monroe, North Carolina; four brothers, Charles O'Dell of Riverdale, Maryland, Everett O'Dell and wife Carol of Lerona, Garry O'Dell and wife Karen of Kegley and Richard O'Dell and wife Susan of Princeton; three sisters, Garnett Hale and husband Rick of Kentucky, Ann Huffman and husband Lonnie of Kegley and Janet Heslep also of Kegley; dear friends including Dude Spain, Ed Wimmer and family, Roger Wood and Mike Roles; Curtis had seven grandchildren whom he loved very much, Cody, Logan, Arrabella, Colten, Dane, Logan and Crystal.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel with Eddie Wimmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Hill Cemetery in Pipestem State Park, Pipestem.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
