PRINCETON - Melvin Curtis "Burhead" Blankenship, 77, of Princeton died peacefully early Sunday morning, July 29, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.
Born July 13, 1941 at Pulaski, VA, he was the son of the late Tom and Faye Akers Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship was a retired foreman with the WV Department of Highways with more than 25 years of service.
Melvin will long be remembered for his love of horses, helping his daughters with their horses and seeing him in the area at many horse shows.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Duncan.
Those left to cherish his memory, his children: Karen Blankenship and husband Mark Shumate, Ann Blankenship; former wife Verna Blankenship; Four grandchildren, Brandon, Vaughn, Devan and Brayden; One great-granddaughter, Nevaeh; Two siblings, Stanley Blankenship and wife Nancy, Brenda Caldwell; A Goddaughter, Kasey Trent and her son Kaymen.
Services to celebrate the life of Melvin Blankenship will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Leonard Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday (today) from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Vaughn Backus, Devan Justice, Mark Shumate, Eddie Osborne, Keith Blankenship, Richard Pettrey, Jeff Gardner and Kirk Simpkins.
Following his service, family & friends are invited to the Holiday Inn Express for a reception in his honor.
The Blankenship family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
