BLUEFIELD — Maude Baker, age 90, of Bluefield, West Virginia passed away quietly on Thursday January 5, 2017 at home. Her family will always remember her tough and courageous spirit. Maude was funny, modest, loving, a great cook and an afficionado of Bridge. She was a "proud and loud" fan of sports, especially golf, at which she excelled and played regularly. She was thoughtful, generous and a friend to many. A great gardner, Maude had a passion for flowers and a home surrounded in flowers. A lover of books, she read voraciously. Almost always joyful, she lived a very full life.
 Maude was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on January 28, 1926 to Mulford Morris and Maude Godfrey Morris. She was the youngest of four children.

After a short banking career in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania she met and married Dr. W.L. Baker of Tazewell, Virginia who in 1948 established a life-long dental practice in Bluefield, West Virginia. They raised four children
Maude was preceded in death by William(Bill) Baker, her husband of 53 years, a son, John Morris Baker, and three siblings, Margaret Hanlin, Barbara Mebane and Mulford Morris.

She is survived by her children: Jane Lavin and her husband Sam of Charlotte, N.C., Gail Boll and her husband Bob of Charlotte, N.C., William(Bill)Baker and his wife Phyllis of Bluefield, W.Va.; five grandchildren: Jeff Lavin and his wife Danielle of Alexandria, Va., Leah Jane Lavin of New York, N.Y., Kelly Norton and husband Ross of Central, S.C., Leigh Ann Wright and husband Brent of Macon, Ga. and William L. Baker, IV of Nashville, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren: Samuel Cooper Lavin, Charlotte Grace Lavin, Frank Hudson Lavin,Tripp Norton, Alex Norton, Lindleigh Norton and Luke Norton.
 Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, January 12 at 2:00 PM from the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Princeton with Chaplain Marquinta Cox officiating.
 The family will receive friends at home.
 In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions, if desired, be made to Hospice Compassus of Princeton, West Virginia.
