The afternoon of Wednesday, February 14th, the Lord took home his angel, Mary Laktash Malenick to rest, after a long medical battle. Mary was a long-time resident of the Isle of Pines area of Moneta, VA.
Born in 1943 in Welch, WV, Mary was raised in Havaco, WV. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Laktash and her father Anthony Laktash.
Mary graduated from Welch High School, and later married Frank Malenick, Jr. of Hemphill, WV. Mary was an active and involved part of the Welch community all of her life. Her involvement ranged from volunteer work for the Welch Fire Department to volunteer work with the Brownies and Girl Scouts of America. Mary worked for the Social Security Office locally in Welch for many decades.
She is survived by her husband Frank and two daughters and sons, Lynne Malenick and Stacy Snider of Flagstaff, Arizona and Beth and Kyle Charlton of Moneta, Virginia and grandson, Jordan Snider of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Services will be held for Mary at Roselawn Funeral Home, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV 24740 on Thursday, February 22, 2018. A gathering will be held from 11:00 to Noon a and brief service will follow.
In lieu of any flowers or gifts of remembrance, the family requests that well-wishers, instead donate to a charity of humanity, whether it be religious, for hunger, for medical research, or something else. Mary taught us to spend purposely and wisely and would wish any money spent on her to instead be put towards the betterment of whatever humanitarian cause you may support.
