Mary Louise's Story
Mary Louise (Sis) Widener Stanley, 87, of Fairview, TN, formerly of Gilliam, WV, received her peaceful reward Friday, September 1, 2017 at her residence with her family at her side. Born July 28, 1930 in Gilliam, WV, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Hugh Widener and Lillie Carolyn Martin Widener from the Chilhowie, VA area. After 87 years of wonderful life, Mary Lou greeted death as an old friend, without fear, knowing that her true healing was waiting for her in Heaven. Even to the end, She comforted her children speaking of seeing their father, family and age old friends again. Truly a life well lived. Being a homemaker, loving mother, and friend to so very many, her life revolved around her family and Church. She was an active member of Kingston Springs Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed cooking and baking for the various social events. As a testament of true love and devotion, Mary Lou was married to Ralph Edward Stanley, Sr. of Bottom Creek, WV after dating only three weeks before starting the grandest adventure of their lifetimes! Living in Bottom Creek for only a short time, Mary Lou spent the majority of her life in Gilliam, WV where she raised her family. On September 11, 2001, she moved into her last home in Fairview, TN. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ralph Edward Stanley, Sr.
She is survived by her children: Ralph Edward Stanley, Jr. and wife Dolores Miller Stanley, David Wayne Stanley and wife Marcia Sue Kim Stanley and Larry Ray Stanley and wife Wanda Jo Comer Stanley. In addition, she is also survived by grandchildren - Victoria Denise Stanley Graves and husband Matthew Graves, Melissa Dawn Stanley, Jonathan Edward Stanley and Sarah Elizabeth Stanley Handley, husband Justin Handley and a host of loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Sis was loved by all that knew her including very special friends Travis and Tina Peek, often referring to Travis as her #4 Son of Fairview, TN, Dan and Kathy Magyar of Fairview, TN and Charles and Shirley Tyus of Fairview, TN. All stalwart friends.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Northfork, WV at 12: Noon with Rev. Donald Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell WV. Friends may call Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 6 until 8: pm at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be: Jonathan Stanley, Matthew Graves, Justin Handley, Dee Stanley, Travis Peek and Daniel Magyar.
