Mary's Story

Mary Phyllis Kirk, 101, of Bluefield, WV, died Sunday August 20, 2017 at her home. Born May 6, 1916 in Matewan, WV, she was a daughter of the late James William Chambers and Martha Hoskins Chambers.
She was of the Methodist faith and was a former member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kirk was loved by all who knew her. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bluefield Chapter 66 for over 60 years. She loved flowers, reading, and she collected cookbooks, many that included her recipes. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Frederick Kirk, Sr.; sisters, Kate Mahon Ward and Agatha Jean Butcher; brothers, Hallie Chambers, James W. Chambers, Jr., Haskell H. Chambers, and an infant brother, Fred Chambers.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Kirk Aguirre and husband Thomas, and son, Paul F. Kirk, Jr., both of Bluefield, WV; one grandson, Thomas Kirk Aguirre and wife Angie of Logan, WV; two great
grandchildren, Britta and Morgan Aguirre; one great-great grandchild, Camden Moore; and her beloved cat, Jojo.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday August 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Wood officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Order of Eastern Star,
Bluefield Chapter 66, Walker-Butcher Cancer Fund, 639 Shenandoah Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701 or to a charity of choice.
