Marvin Marshall's Story
BLUEFIELD — Marvin Marshall "Mac" McClanahan, 73, of Bluefield died late Wednesday night, March 29, 2017 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born January 3, 1944 at Thorpe, he was the son of the late Cecil Woodrow McClanahan and Alma Gertrude Harry McClanahan.
Mac was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Navy; he received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal & the National Defense Service Medal.
Mac retired from Princeton Community Hospital as Director of Maintenance and Laundry Services after many years of service. He was a member of Advent Christian Church of Princeton.
While his health permitted, Mac loved wood working, having built furniture for family and friends, he especially enjoyed building cabinets. Mac enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle and spending time at the lake with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings: Aubrey Eugene McClanahan & Joyce Ann Spiker.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 52 years, Novella Hockett McClanahan. One son, David Marshall McClanahan & wife Tina Marie of Cummings GA, 2 grandchildren, Veronica & Samantha. His sister, Sandra McClanahan Kottman of Alexandria VA. A host of nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mac McClanahan will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Rob Buchanan officiating. Military honors will be given under the direction of the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
