BLUEFIELD, VA Mark Herbert Townley, 59, of Bluefield, VA, died Sunday October 15, 2017 at his home.
Born May 7, 1958 in Bluefield, WV, he was a son of the late Everett Herbert Townley and Lydia L. Ellison Townley.
Mark was an active member of Crossroads Church in Bluefield where he was always willing to help. He was a graduate of Bluefield High School, Class of 1976, and continued his love for anything to do with schools. He worked ballgames, sold tickets, worked in the office, and enjoyed planning class reunions. He had worked Ammar Brothers Wholesale and had been an employee of the Mercer Country Board of Education as a Special Education Secretary since April 2011. Mark was a gentle man. He loved to crochet, play piano, and was avid with his Bible study. He enjoyed always having a saltwater fish aquarium.
Mark is survived by his special family, Bessie Simpkins who was affectionately known as Granny, Nancy Caldwell, LeAnn Slade, Linda Shinault, Sandra Kelly, Lisa Powers, and Michael "Florida" Thompson; special work family, Julie Ann Smith, Lynn Bayle, Eddie Thornton, Nikki Smalls, Roger Robertson, Sharon Harmon, and Christina Flanigan; brothers, Everett L. Townley and wife Sandra Faith, Larry W. Townley and wife Janet, and Richard Townley and wife Susan, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday October 22, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Travis Lowe officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 until the service hour.
A graveside service will be held on Monday October 23, 2107 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.?
