April 22, 2017 Lucy Virginia Johnson England, 92, of Salem, Va., passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017. Lucy was born in Keystone, W.Va. Lucy is survived by her sister, Betty Fleming, Marietta, Ohio; daughter, Deborah Kittridge, North Port, Fla. (Rick); daughter Ronda Crowder, Roanoke, Va. (Chick); and son R. Kenneth England II, Salem, Va. (Sue). She has eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five very dear nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, R. Kenneth England, her parents, Charles and Cora (Lanter) Johnson of Bluefield, W.Va. and brother-in-law, Mr. Donald P. Fleming. Lucy grew up in Keystone, W.Va and moved to Roanoke to attend National Business College. Upon graduation she worked as a clerk for Norfolk and Western Railway, and in later years, at Lakeside Amusement Park, and as a sales representative for Orvis. She had a love for music and was a gifted piano player who played regularly at La Maison Du Gourmet and she had deep compassion for the care of animals. A private graveside service was held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA.
