Lucille Anna's Story
Lucille Anna Smith Shanklin, 82 of Fairfield, California peacefully passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 in Vacaville, California.
Lucille was born November 9, 1934 in Landgraff, West Virginia to James Clark and Evelyn Charlotte (Matthews) Smith.
Lucille graduated from Park Central High School in Bluefield, West Virginia in 1952. She married Arline E. Jones Jr. and later Sgt. Algie A Shanklin Sr. As a military wife, Lucille and her family relocated to northern California in 1960. Lucille continued her education through various colleges while working with the Army and Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES).
After 35 years of service with AAFES, Lucille retired with numerous awards and commendations. Lucille held positions including Clothing Sales Store Supervisor, Department Manager, and Training Coordinator which included initiating programs for employees and creating curriculums. After retirement, Lucille worked at Macys Department Store in customer service for 10 years. She loved working, interacting with, and helping people.
Lucille loved to travel and visited Paris France, several cities in Italy, the Caribbean Islands, and extensively in the United States including the Grand Canyon, Alaska and Hawaii. She enjoyed reading and her favorite author was James Patterson. An avid bowler, Lucille belonged to a league and was known to bowl a 200 game. She loved God and always put him first in her life.
Mrs. Shanklin is survived by daughters Venis Jones Boyd (Gerald), Tracy Shanklin Anderson; son Algie Shanklin Jr; sister Helen (Cherri) Jackson (Dean); grandsons Clarence Johnson Jr, Joshua Slack-Shanklin, Kenneth Anderson Jr; granddaughters Acacia and Sheree Shanklin, Brittany and Alicia Anderson; two great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons, nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.
Lucille Shanklin was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Delores Brooks, Mable Joyce Taylor, ex-husbands Arline E. Jones Jr. and Algie A. Shanklin Sr.
