Leoma "Lee"'s Story
ATHENS Leoma "Lee" Boggs Short, 96 of Athens, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Glenwood Nursing Home.
Born June 24, 1921 at Big Otter, Clay County, WV where she graduated from high school then began her working career at the State House in Charleston, until she finished Glenville State College in 1959. She taught high school Business starting in McDowell County and then Clay County for the rest of her teaching career. It was in McDowell County she met her husband Ira Short. They moved to Athens after retirement in the 1970's.
She became active in the Concord United Methodist Church the Ladies Circle, Garden Club and Red Hat Society, with her neighbor and friend Alice James Moore. She continued attending church in Athens and then Browns Chapel Methodist as long as her health permitted.
She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Minnie Boggs of Big Otter, her husband Ira Short, sister Jean Boggs Baker of Big Otter and two brothers Darrell Boggs of Big Otter and James Martin Boggs of Elyria, Ohio.
She is survived by one sister Louetta and husband Harald Fields of Big Otter, brother Alan and wife Leanna Boggs of Coolville, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank caregivers Linda Caldwell, Ann Ellis, Keith and Denise, Pam Farmer, C. T. Lowe, Roger Pennington, Anita Howerton, and the employees at Glenwood Nursing Home.
There will be a visitation for Mrs. Short at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Boggs Cemetery at Big Otter, WV.
