Josie York Russo, 89, passed away April 7, 2018 in Franklin, VA. She was born near Coalwood, WV, the home of Rocket Boys, to Mike and Grace Angeline York on March 19, 1929.
After graduating high school, Josie took a job at the local drug store. It was there, at the soda fountain counter, she met Nene (as Tony was affectionately called), who had just returned from bravely serving his country in WWII.
They soon married and made their home in South Charleston WV, where they resided for over 30 years. Josie was a devoted mother, and enjoyed gardening, canning and baking her delicious rolls and cakes. After Tonys retirement, they moved back to their roots in southern WV, where Josie enjoyed teaching Sunday school and spending time with her grands and great grands, family and childhood friends.
She was proceeded in death by both parents, her husband of 53 years, Antonio (Tony) Russo and eldest daughter, Brenda Fuller.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Hazel Warden of VA, brother, Coy York of WV, children, Dan of NJ, Mariann Beverly of VA and Philip of WV. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughters, Christina Gill and Aleasa Rountree, Amber Russo, grandsons, Christian and Dante Russo and five great grandchildren.
Roselawn Funeral Home, Princeton WV is in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made in Josies honor to the Alzheimers Association.
