Joseph's Story

PRINCETON Joseph Lee Starkey, 79 of Northview Avenue, Princeton went to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday Morning, January 5, 2018 at his home.
Born on June 25, 1938 in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Leon Lee Starkey and Veda Dell Yoak Starkey.
Joe was a graduate of Princeton High School Class of 1957. Joe had a long career with the Kroger Company spanning more than 42 years, having served as manager in Welch, Bluefield, Bristol, Princeton, Pearisburg and retiring from the Bluewell store.
He was a member of the Lerona United Methodist Church. Joe loved his family and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his happiest moments came when he could take his boys into the woods to hunt.
He was a member of the Princeton Masonic Lodge #134 AF & AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Starkey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Ewelda Gay Wimmer Starkey. His four children, Michael and Robin Starkey, Joe and Melissa Starkey, Bryan and Rhonda Starkey and Kim and Roger Lane; 10 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and one brother, Fred and Frances Starkey.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Joe Starkey will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Jim Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department along with two grandsons, Zack and Casey Lester.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leon, Shannon, Hunter and Darrel Bailey.
Friends may visit with the family Monday, January 8, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
