Johnny's Story

Princeton Johnny Eugene Proffit, 62, of Princeton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2017, at his home with his son by his side. He fought a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born November 4, 1954, in Bluefield, WV, and he was the son of the late John Proffit Jr. and Dorothy Johnson Proffit.
Johnny graduated from Princeton High School in 1973. He worked in various coal mines operated by U.S. Steel until the early 1980's when he and his father started a trucking business hauling mail for the United States Postal Service until 2008. He most recently worked for Top Notch Custodial Service until he was forced to quit in 2016 due to his declining health. Johnny made many friends during his time on the road and always enjoyed talking to everyone he met. Johnny never met a stranger and always lent a helping hand. Johnny was also a lifelong fan of the West Virginia University Mountaineers.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Dreama Proffit, and his sister Jennifer Proffit.
Survivors include his daughter: Andrea Proffit, and her son Zack, his son Eric Proffit; his sister Sharon Kay Taylor and husband Johnny; his sister: Roxanna Karnes and husband Stanley; his uncle Bill Proffit, and wife Pauline; mother-in-law, Norma Grogan, and her family; sisters-in-law; Lisa Grogan, Harlena Pennington & husband Carl all of Princeton.
Johnny also had several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, 25, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Greg Kinser officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Family & Friends will serve as pallbearers.
