John Campbell Rush of Bluefield, WV, quietly passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born April 16, 1944 he was the son of the late Samuel Campbell Rush and Frances Robertson Rush.
John was a life-long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, EPC where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Bluefield Lions Club and served as its president for the year 1994-1995.
He was a graduate of Bluefield High School and attended Concord College. From an early age he loved anything with four wheels and an engine. Therefore, it was not surprising he chose a career in the car business. John began working at Evans Chevrolet in the late 1960s, then worked for Cole Chevrolet-Cadillac, and retired from T&T Pontiac-Buick. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards for sales and was noted for his knowledge and expertise of the vehicles he sold and cars in general.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebekkah Renee Rush; an infant son, Scott Christopher Rush; his mother-in-law, Ida Dove Vermillion; brother-in-law, Hobert "Jenkie" Gundell; and sister-in-law, Lucille Vermillion Vass.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Vermillion Rush; daughters, Lori Lianne Rush of Bluefield and Allison Rush Hester and her husband, Russell, of Rincon, GA; sister, Laura J. Rush of Bluefield; and two grandchildren, Campbell Elizabeth Hester and Olivia Trinity. John is also survived by his brother-in-law, Floyd "Junior" Vermillion and his wife, Shela; Sylvia Gundell; cousins Sarah Gott Holroyd and husband, Fred; Mary Frances Morris and husband, Darryl; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 3 at Mercer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 4 at 2pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jonathan Rockness officiating.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Green Valley. Serving as pallbearers are Ben Donevant, John Riddle, Richard Higgins, Jim Wilkinson, Tullio Ramella, and Anthony Ramella.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bible in the Schools, St. Jude or a charity of one's choice.
