Jerry Lavelle's Story
Jerry Lavelle "Colonel" Moorehead Sr., 82, of Jenkinjones Mountain Road, Anawalt, West Virginia passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Maples Nursing Home in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Jerry was born on December 07, 1935 in Athens, Georgia to the late Felix Moorehead and Pearl Mae Moorehead.
Jerry had been a resident of Anawalt, West Virginia for the past twenty years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Powhatan, West Virginia and a former member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Tazewell, Virginia. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He continued serving his community's as a city police officer for thirty plus years working in Lynchburg, Virginia, Tazewell, Virginia and Columbus, Georgia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shelby Jean Chapman Moorehead in 2011.
Survivors include his son Jerry Moorehead II and fiance Erin Fultineer of Anawalt, West Virginia; two daughters Carrie A. Moorehead of the home; Cheryl Blake and husband Jeff of Montgomery, Alabama; four grandchildren Kellan and Liam Fultineer of Anawalt, West Virginia; Andrew and Derek Blake of Montgomery, Alabama. His special cat companion Rambo.
In keeping with Mr. Moorehead wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later day.
