Janice Frazier Thrasher

Abingdon, VA - Janice Frazier Thrasher, age 90, wife, mother, and Daughter of the American Revolution, went home to the Heaven of her Lord on July 26, 2018. She was born September 22, 1927 in Bluefield, WV and was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Charles Creed Frazier and Bertha Wood Frazier. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Fred Thomas Thrasher, and three brothers, Taylor, Ed, and Chapman Frazier.
Janice was the first "Miss Bituminous" Coal Queen in Bluefield, WV at the end of WWII when she graduated high school. Janice graduated from Randolph Macon Women's College. She held several jobs, mainly in the banking industry; worked for Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ; and even held a real estate license. But, she would be quick to point out that primarily she was a mother and raised four children.
In retirement, she was very involved with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Abingdon United Methodist Church where her grandfather, J. Tyler Frazier, was minister in the late 1800's. Janice was a member of the church choir until she was no longer physically able. She was passionately proud of her Scottish heritage and her Methodist background.
Janice is survived by her children, Allyson T. Perlman and husband Mark, Lynn T. Keister, James Bruce Thrasher and Priscilla Hicks, and Anne Stuart Southwood and husband Robert; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Seth, Kelly, Zachary, Keegan, Chelsea, Ian, Ben, and Samantha; three great grandchildren, Lacy, Tavin, and Hudson.
The family extends appreciation to Dr. DeSalvo and his Oncology team, the nurses and staff at English Meadows Assisted Living, and for the compassion and care extended by her Caris Hospice Nurses.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at Abingdon United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Countiss and Glenn Patterson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Pulaski, VA, where Janice will join her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, or to Black's Fort Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, c/o Lila Thurmond, 19416 Country Drive, Abingdon, VA 24211, or to the General William Campbell Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in Abingdon, VA.
