James Edward Tibbs, Sr., 86 of Williamsburg, VA and formerly of Bluefield, VA passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017.
Born in West Graham, VA, he was the son of the late Richard Hamilton and Fanny Jane Woody Tibbs. He was a mason by trade and had built several houses including the one he last lived in. He loved being in the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing or working in his flower garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Irene Leslie Tibbs; daughter: Jeanette Jarrell; brothers: George Fox, JT Tibbs, Lynn Tibbs and Hobert Tibbs; sisters: Jean Painter and Ruby Painter.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Kay McFarland (Larry) of Bluefield, VA, JE Tibbs (Mary) of Bluefield, VA, Rey Tibbs (Carol) of N. Tazewell, VA, Greg Tibbs of Branson, MO and Steve Woods of Branson, MO; sisters: Louise Leedy of Bluefield, VA and Frankie McDaniel of Tazewell, VA; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate James' life will be held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday at Dudley Memorial from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local chapters of The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
