James Douglas Rose died on September 8, 2017 at his home in Troutville, VA. He was born on April 6, 1939 in Welch, WV to the late Elmer Rose and Rose Turner Rose of Caretta, WV. He is survived by his son, Jordan Rose of Vienna, VA; and daughter, Peggy Teselle of Owing, MD. Additional survivors are his sister, Charlotte and husband Harold Williamson of Tazewell, VA; and nephews, Jon Williamson of Montpelier, VT and Mark Williamson of Albuquerque, NM.
He graduated from Big Creek High School and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne of the U. S. Army. He had a lifelong interest in railroads and trains. He collected railroad memorabilia and enjoyed taking train excursions across the country. Another enduring interest was his love of jazz. He listened at venues large and small from nondescript clubs to the famous Newport, RI Jazz Festival.
He lived most of his adult life in the Washington Metropolitan area. As a young man, he started the J.D.R. Corp, a small electric company. He built the company into a large, successful business.
He will be honored and remembered by his family during a private gathering. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
