BOZOO, WV James Jefferson Blankenship, Jr., 90, formerly of Bozoo, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Baptist Park Ridge Hospital in Irmo, SC. Born February 14, 1927, he was the son of the late James J. Sr. and Stella Minnie Young Blankenship.
James was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and had retired from Celanese with 45 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his two children, Doris Crews Blankenship; his second wife, Louise Connor Blankenship; his son, James Clayton Blankenship; two brothers, Stephen E. and William D. Blankenship; two sisters, Clara Tiller and Pauline Gordon; and four infant siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Brenda Smith and husband Steve of Irmo, SC, whom he has made his home with for the past four and a half years; two sisters, Lillian Mann and husband Jerry of Rich Creek, VA, and Mary Moore of NH; four grandsons, Patrick Smith and wife Kathy of Columbus, GA, Brendan Smith and wife Jan of Blythewood, SC, Josh Blankenship, and Jamie Blankenship; one granddaughter, Cathy Webb and husband Alex; one great granddaughter, Carolyne Smith; four great grandsons, Charlie and Jeremy Smith and Travis and Matthew Webb; two step daughters, Linda Ballard and Emma Lee Stegner; one very special family, Rick, Cheryl, Evan, and Emilee Bright, whom he loved like his own; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Dr. Rev. Jerry Mann and Tommy Gordon officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, VA. A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Following the committal service, the family will be gathering at the home of Karen Hale, 403 Westview St., Narrows, VA, 24124.
