PRINCETON — Ivory E. Hylton, 84, of Champ Street, Princeton died Sunday morning, January 15, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke VA.
Born January 16, 1932 at Gary, he was the son of the late Sidney Jackson Hylton and Sadie McClanahan Hylton.
After school, Ivory joined the U.S. Army to serve in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for U.S. Steel at Gary for 13 years and retired from Lowe's of Princeton while they were on Thorn Street & Oakvale Road in Princeton. He was a member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton. While his health permitted, he loved fishing, any kind of ball games and traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings; Robenia Walker, Loray Powell, Arlenia Yopp and Willie Hylton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy Ann Gentry Hylton. Two children, Tommy Lynn & Donna Hylton of Midland NC, Tamela Hylton & Bill Baker of Prince George VA.; Two grandchildren, Windi & Chris Measimer, Joshua & Tara Baker. Three great grandchildren, Adam & Kate Measimer, Ivy Baker.
Five siblings, Lorina Fink, Arlevia Farley, Darlene Holcomb, Franklin Hylton & Jack Hylton. A host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastors Dr. John King and Jim Simmons officiating.
Friends may gather Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton to visit with the family. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com
Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.
