Howard Clayton Thompson, 85 of the Grassy Spur community in Bandy, VA died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born September 18, 1932 in Bishop, VA he was a son of the late Dewey Garfield Thompson and Betha Marie Asbury Thompson. He attended Dunfordtown Church of God. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Germany during the Korean War. Mr. Thompson was a welder and retired from the former S&S Corporation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Crouse Thompson; daughter, Susan Marie Thompson; brothers, Lawrence and Fred Thompson.
He is survived by his daughter, Norma Kindley and husband, Terry of Asheboro, NC; sons, Michael Thompson and wife, Helen and Jeff Thompson and wife, Louetta all of Bandy, VA; brother, Sam Thompson of Thomasville, NC; sister, Elizabeth Mabe of Chester, VA; grandsons, Thomas and Eric Kindley; great grandson, Bryce Kindley.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, February 23, 2018 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday with the Reverend Kenny Fields and the Reverend Jerry Alley officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, VA and VA National Guard Honor Team of Gate City, VA. Pallbearers are Michael Thompson, Jeff Thompson, Terry Kindley, Thomas Kindley, Eric Kindley and Kenny Fields, Jr.
