Helen J.'s Story
MATOAKA Helen J. "June" Brooks, 83, of Matoaka (Arista Mountain), passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Princeton Health Care Center. Born November 26, 1934 in Rhodell, she was the daughter of the late Princie A. Cox and Dora May Matthews Cox.
Mrs. Brooks was educated in Raleigh County. She was a very well-known seamstress having taught classes at Singer in Welch during the 1950's. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. She was full of joy and pride when it came to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 ½ years, Ernest Eugene Brooks; two sisters, Carole Cox and Gloria Farmer; three brothers, Prince A. Cox, Jr., Glen Cox and James Cox.
She will be sadly missed by one son, Ernest Eugene Brooks, Jr. of Herndon; two daughters, Dora (Wayne) McKinney of Cleveland, TN and Janice (James) Wiblin of Princeton; a nephew, Frankie Brooks of Roderfield, who was raised with the family; grandchildren, Helen "Lynn" (Allen) White of Princeton, Paul "Eddie" (Joy) Kinser of Bluefield and Katie (Michael) Loveless of Chattanooga, TN; step-grandchildren, Tammy (Andy) Jones of Princeton, Angie (Kevin) Lawson of Lake Bottom and Allen Wiblin of Princeton; great-grandchildren, A.J. White of Princeton, Sammy Kinser of Bluefield, Ayden, Dylan, Grayson (and one on-the-way) Loveless of Chattanooga, TN; step-great-grandchildren, Allen and Brandon Howerton of Princeton and Kodey and Olivia Lawson of Lake Bottom and Allison Grace Wiblin of Princeton; two sisters, Tressie Hastings of Columbus, OH and Clarice Bailey of Grove City, OH; three brothers, Jack (Dixie) Cox of Springfield, OH, Donald Cox of London, OH and Gary (Karen) Cox of Forest Lake, MN; one sister-in-law, Bertha Cox of Ohio; many nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to count. Special adopted family, Lisa and Larry Hill and Rodney, Sandra, Nicole and Lil' Rodney Bailey; and her very special extended family of Princeton Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Bobby Kinser officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Health Care Center Activities Fund, 316 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV 24740.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from noon until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
