MATOAKA - Gertrude Stables, 89, of Matoaka, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 20, 2017.
Born September 21, 1928 at Lowe, WV, she was the daughter of the late Homer Graham and Nona Quick Graham.
Mrs. Stables was a wonderful wife, mother and maw maw to her family that loved her dearly. She was a member of the Rich Creek Baptist Church in Spanishburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Eugene W. Stables in April, 2017; three brothers, Junior Graham, Bernard "Cotton" Graham, Roger Graham; and one sister, Eunice Hall.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Syres and husband Howard and Carolyn Akers and husband Dan Akers, Jr.; four grandchildren, Michelle Osborn, Heather Mills, Wendy Pryor and Dan Akers, III; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Pryor, Courtney Mills, Jackson Pryor, Colin Osborn and Caitlin Mills; two sisters, Norma Burton and Mozelle Gillespie; one brother, Don Graham; and special friend and neighbor for 60 years Annie Lester. A very heartfelt love and appreciation goes to caregivers, Mary Farley, Debbie Small and Idena Mitchell, and a special thank you for the kindness and compassion of Amedisys Hospice Care.
Funeral Services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Ralph Calfee and Rev. Jamie Mattox officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
