PRINCETON George Franklin Britton, Jr., 85, of The Havens, Princeton, WV, and formerly of Bluefield, WV, died Sunday April 23, 2017 at The Havens.
Born December 9, 1931 in Marion, VA, he was a son of the late George Franklin Britton, Sr. and Thelma Gollehon Britton. Mr. Britton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and attended Emory & Henry College. He retired from Brunswick Billiards as a Purchasing Manager after 36 years. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church and attended Bland Street United Methodist Church in Bluefield. He was a member of the Lions Club for many years. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and never missed a family function. Mr. Britton also enjoyed golfing.
Mr. Britton is survived by his wife, Joan Smith Britton; daughter, Pamela Britton Groseclose and companion, Tony Papa of Bluefield, WV; son, Dr. George Franklin "Frank" Britton, III and wife Linda of Bluefield, VA; brother, Robert Britton of Knoxville, TN; sister, Sue Hastings of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren, Britt Groseclose and wife Jessica of Midlothian, VA, Jordan Britton of Charleston, WV, and Jacob Britton of Bluefield, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Frank Watkins officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Britt Groseclose, Jacob Britton, Daniel Shrewsbury, Shawn Papa, and John Smith will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
