Walter Eugene "Gene" Pruett, 77 of North Tazewell, VA went to his eternal reward Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at his home. Born June 3, 1940 in Tazewell County, VA, he was a son of the late Jack Andrew and Minnie Alley Pruett.
Mr. Pruett had been a pump technician with Tazewell Pumps prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Tazewell Moose Lodge and was well known in the area for his singing and guitar playing with "Rated GP" and "Country Fever" and various bands in the area. Most recently he had been playing and singing at All Seasons Indoor Market. Gene was an outgoing person who loved people and never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Keister Harman, William C. "Buster" Pruett, Elmo Pruett, and James Pruett; four sisters, Katherine Frantz, Elizabeth Muzzleman, Lillian Leedy, and Pauline Epperson.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Pruett; one son, Thomas Eugene Pruett of Liberty, SC; one granddaughter, Ashley Pruett of Taylors, SC; two great granddaughters, Kylee and Gracie Bishop; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday, July 9, 2017 with Pastor Jimi Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Members of the Tazewell Moose Lodge #198 will serve as pallbearers.
